Euclid home directory access via SMB

The department's Macs are configured to automatically use your Euclid home directory as your local home directory, but what if you want to access those files from somewhere else? You can mount your Euclid home directory as a network drive using the standard SMB protocol.

Windows XP (includes campus labs)

  1. From the Start menu, go to "My Network Places".
  2. On the left side of the window that pops up, click "Add a network place".
  3. Click "Next".
  4. Make sure "Choose another network location" is highlighted and click "Next'.
  5. At the location prompt, type "\\euclid.lab.knet.edu\LOGIN", replacing LOGIN with your login name (in lowercase), and click "Next".
  6. Modify its nickname if you like, then click "Next".
  7. Click "Finish".

In the future, your euclid home directory should be listed in your Network Places.

Mac OS X

  1. In the Finder, pull down the "Go" menu and open the "Connect to Server" dialog.
  2. In the "Server Address" field, type "smb://euclid.lab.knet.edu/LOGIN/", replacing LOGIN with your login name (in lowercase).
  3. If you want the computer to save this setting, click the button with the plus sign.
  4. Click "Connect".
  5. Type your password when prompted.

If you save the setting, you will be able to just click on that entry when connecting, rather than typing the whole thing in each time.
